Property Watch 2009: A Home in Provence

This beautiful film was one of a series I cut for BBC1's 'Property Watch'. Given the fantastic location and wonderful weather, the main challenge was the discussion in the restaurant. It had been shot in a hurry, was not well lit and the sound was terrible...

The second challenge was the lovely old lady. Here my french came in handy for working subtitles, but even after playing her interview to a range of linguists and native french only on the last night did we finally work out exactly what she said so we could write the final sub-titles.

Me My Head: Tumbling Down

I provided the off-line editing, the compositing and the Color grade on my own HD system for this music promo by Samantha Chamberlain.

She wanted to bring an other-worldly aspect into the girl-meets-boy story, and it was a good opportunity for me to demonstrate my compositing and Color abilities. I also provided some associate producer elements of the project, advising on choice of format, camera and workflow.

Lego City TV and Cinema Commercial, Nickelodeon

This TV commercial was directed by Andy Howden, Head of Consumer Unit at Nickelodeon. The brief was to bring the amazing lego city they'd built to life, compositing the figures from green screen. The offline then went to AfterEffects for final graphics and grading.

Nickelodeon has been a regular home for me since 2007.

Lissenden Life

The first proper documentary I edited, with an incredibly talented director, Alex Lay. We had less than a week, but both fell in love with the potential in the material and worked late each day. I was so excited to have found a great director, with a strong track-record, with whom I could look forward to working on great documentaries in future – until, on the last day he announced it was his last film before retirement! Alex now lives in Berlin and is working in other fields.

Acton Community Forum Launch

The Acton Community Forum was just an idea in the minds of the contributors to this film, and their task was to outline the possibilities in an inspiring way. As a result, with a budget of just £3,000, the film tells a story through interviews and scenes of change, of what Acton could be in the future. Philip Taylor directed and shot this film in 2002 – the Acton Community Forum is still going strong.
  • Shot on miniDV
  • A budget of just £3,000
  • Edited on an early version of Final Cut Pro and re-graded in Color in 2008 as a training exercise

Northern Crock, The Money Programme

This was a particularly difficult programmeto edit. At the first viewing there was a most unusual pause. Then congratulations on having a programme that was pretty much all there. It was. The first viewing was practically of the finished film. But the thought of two more weeks of editing was too tempting, and the scrutiny from on high too close on this story for us not to have to try all the options. In the end we over-ran by a day, had gone through five viewings and pretty much ended up back at the first viewing.
